I’m a huge fan of Airbnb and regularly use it while traveling. I stayed exclusively in Airbnbs during my travels through SouthEast Asia and Australia last year, and I am currently typing this from my Airbnb in Cartagena, Spain. I love it and will continue to use Airbnb in Europe this summer. Booking an Airbnb apartment or room makes you feel more at home. It’s like staying at a friend’s house in a different city and you immediately have someone to give you local recommendations. It’s a great way to experience a new city in a more local way. Now, Airbnb has added to this local experience by offering Airbnb experiences – ran by locals in each city!
While I was in Barcelona I got to try one of these Airbnb experiences first hand. I booked a photography tour of the Gothic Quarter – my favorite part of Barcelona. This tour was led by Joan, a Barcelona local and photographer who knows the Gothic Quarter like the back of his hand.
This Airbnb experience lasted a total of 2 hours and included both a tour of the area and professional photos taken by Joan. These photos are then edited and sent to you a week after the experience. As a blogger I always need photos so this was a perfect option for me, especially since I’m traveling solo. I shared this Airbnb experience with a couple who was also traveling around Spain. We all walked around the Gothic Quarter together while Joan explained the history and fun facts of the picturesque area, regularly pausing for photos.
We did a full tour of the Gothic Quarter and ended the tour at a local shop where we sampled some coffee liquor. It was a great experience and I highly recommend booking it when you visit Barcelona! You will not only get some great photos from your trip but will also get to learn some history of the area and get local recommendations! A perfect experience 🙂 Book this experience here.
Airbnb experiences are now offered in most big cities. There are more experiences like this one, and you can also find unique food/wine tours, boat trips, etc. Be sure to browse through them for your next trip!
